The Last 31 of '21
The Last 31 of '21 is an immersive visual meditation capturing the final sunsets of 2021 from the same location on Madeira Beach, Florida. Over the course of December, I filmed two-hour time lapses of each sunset, condensed into one-minute sequences that conclude at civil dusk, where the last light of day fades. This project combines these 31 time-lapse clips with slow-motion and still photography, documenting the unique wildlife, colors, and atmospheric nuances of each evening.
The work is designed for diverse installations, from gallery exhibitions of 31 sunset photographs to large-scale video displays, where viewers can “scroll” through each day by moving their hands over the projections. Another interactive experience enables viewers to walk along a sequence of projected time lapses that synchronize with their pace, offering a reflective journey through the rhythms of twilight and nature's daily close.
